Days Between Dates

Count the number of days between two dates, with the same span shown as weeks and remaining days, total hours and total minutes. An inclusive option counts both the start and end day.

How to use the Days Between Dates

  1. Choose the start date and the end date.
  2. Turn on Include end date if you want to count both the first and the last day, as you would for a trip, a course or a sick-leave period.
  3. Read the number of days between the dates, along with the same span as weeks and remaining days, total hours and total minutes.
  4. If the end date comes first, the calculator swaps the two dates and shows a note. You can also press Swap dates yourself.
  5. Press Copy summary to copy every figure, or Reset to clear both dates.

How the days between two dates are counted

The tool converts each date to a running day number and subtracts. Because it works on calendar days instead of clock times, the answer does not depend on your time zone, and a daylight saving change never makes a day 23 or 25 hours long.

Weeks and remaining days divide the total by 7. Hours and minutes are the day count multiplied by 24 and by 1,440. They describe whole calendar days only: this is not the time between two clock times, so if you need that, you must account for the start and end times yourself.

Counting convention matters. The default is the difference between the dates, so a date to the following day is 1 day. Including the end date counts every day on the calendar from the first to the last, which is one more.

Days between = end date - start date (+ 1 when the end date is included)
Weeks = floor(days / 7), remaining days = days mod 7
Hours = days x 24
Minutes = days x 1,440

Assumptions and limits

  • Counts whole calendar days only. Time of day, time zones and daylight saving changes are ignored.
  • Weekends and holidays are included in the count.
  • Leap years follow the Gregorian rules for every year. Supported years are 1 to 9999.

Practical examples

Weeks, hours and minutes in one span

From 1 January 2026 to 25 December 2026 is 358 days. That is 51 weeks and 1 day, 8,592 hours or 515,520 minutes. With the end date included it is 359 days, 8,616 hours and 516,960 minutes.

The leap day matters

From 28 February to 1 March is 2 days in 2024, a leap year, and 1 day in 2025. A whole leap year, 1 January 2024 to 1 January 2025, is 366 days.

Reading weeks and days

From 1 January 2026 to 29 March 2026 is 87 days. As weeks and days that is 12 weeks and 3 days, because 12 x 7 = 84 and 3 days remain.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the count change when I include the end date?

Without it, the count is the gap between the dates, so 10 June to 11 June is 1 day. With it, both 10 June and 11 June are counted, which gives 2. Choose whichever matches how your deadline, booking or policy counts days.

Are the hours and minutes exact?

They are exact for whole calendar days, since they are the day count times 24 or 1,440. They are not for the clock time between two specific moments, because this tool ignores time of day and daylight saving shifts.

How do I turn the result into weeks?

Look at the weeks and remaining days line, such as 12 weeks and 3 days. That is the day count split into whole weeks, with the days that do not make a full week left over.

Does it skip weekends or holidays?

No. Every calendar day is counted, including weekends and public holidays. This page does not calculate working days.

What if my dates are in the wrong order?

You will not get an error. The tool swaps them, tells you it did, and shows the positive gap between the earlier and later date.
